Belfort is a French city located in the north-east of the region Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. It is the capital of the Territoire de Belfort. The city is located in the "trouée de Belfort", a passageway between the Vosges mountains in the north and the Jura mountains in the south, in the extreme northeast of the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region, in the Territoire de Belfort department. The Belfort agglomeration is thus located, by road, less than 25 km from the Swiss border and about 60 km from the German border. The city is close to Basel and Freiburg im Breisgau. As the crow flies, Belfort is 360 km from Paris, 260 km from Lyon and 120 km from Strasbourg.
